Wool is a fabric that has a lot of uses. Though people must understand that there is not just one kind of wool available in the market. Wool comes in a lot of different kinds and wool comes from a lot of different animals as well.

When we think of wool, we automatically believe that wool comes from sheep. It is surprising for many people when they found out that it is not only sheep whose fibers are used in the making of wool. There are many other animals that have fibers which are precious in the making of wool.

When we talk about the classifications of wool, we can notice that the coarsest kind of wool is used for preparing items like carpets and rugs, even blankets are made out of this rough wool because these items are used for rough purposes as well and they have to be durable. Merino wools on the other hand are used for making smart wool items such as clothing. These items can be washed and dried. In order to stop wool from shrinking, it must be treated so that it stays durable and elastic to fit people.

Besides the sheep, Alpacas are also an animal that have fiber which is used in making wool, this animal belongs to the llama family of animals. These animals are native to mountainous regions, which means that they have very heavy fleece. This fleece is very valuable in making wool. This wool is different from sheep wool in the sense that it is not as greasy.

Angora goats are also a species that contribute to making of wool. Originating in turkey, Mohair is a very popular kind of wool that is made from the fibers of these Angora goats. Though these goats originate in turkey, they can be found in all parts of the world now because they have been imported and are breeding in farms globally. In the United States, Texas happens to produce the most angora fiber due to the large accumulation of the goats in these areas before and after the civil war.

The fibers that have been extracted from these different animals first have to be spun into thread and then woven into cloth to make them ready for use in preparing many clothing items and home textile items such as carpets and rugs as mentioned before.

The more the wool is spun; the softer it is and the more value it has.

Wool is not only available in the original fiber colors that it was extracted in. the wools can be dyed and they can be treaded to make them as good as any synthetic fiber you can find in the market. With woolen items, you can be sure that you have pure fabric because wool stands alone and is not mixed with any other fiber in most cases. Unlike artificial fabrics, wool can be recycled and reused which gives it an upper hand.
